Born in Sarrià de Ter on 19 July 1979. Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Public Administration from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Master’s Degree in Territorial and Urban Studies from UPC-BarcelonaTech and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. Trained as a town planner, he has been involved in municipal politics from a young age. In 1999, he took up his first post as councillor on his local town council in Sarrià de Ter. In 2007 he was elected mayor, a responsibility he held until 2018, when he was elected President of the Parliament of Catalonia. In 2012 he headed the ERC electoral list for the Girona constituency in the elections for the Parliament of Catalonia, where he was member of parliament. In the 2015 and 2017 elections, he held onto his seat in the chamber, as part of the Junts pel Sí coalition and the ERC candidacy, respectively. During his time as a member of the Parliament of Catalonia he has been deputy spokesman for the Junts pel Sí parliamentary group and economic spokesman in the chamber for ERC (11th term). He was also a member of the Business and Employment Committee and contributed to the draft bills on cooperatives, the modification of the Consumer Code and the tax on vacant properties (10th term). He is the author of the book Pegasus, l’Estat que ens espia, a chronicle of the case of digital political espionage against activists, politicians, journalists and lawyers from all over the world. He is the Minister of Business and Labour from may 2021 and president of Circuit Barcelona-Catalunya and the Fundació Barcelona Capital Nàutica.
